What make's a great boss?

These are my preferred attributes of a good boss. Bear in mind, being at the director level for the last five years I have been reporting to the CEO. 1) Has a clear vision of where he/she wants to take the company; 2) Is a strategic thinker; 3) Has the right people in the right positions, including those skilled at creating, implementing and monitoring the plans necessary to achieve the company’s vision; 5) Understands skills and capabilities of his/her staff members, but also understands their individual goals and objectives; 6) Optimizes the performances of individuals to produce a result that is bigger than the sum of the individual contributions; 7) Has clearly defined and communicated expectations of his/her staff; 8) Is flexible enough to understand that there is more than one route to success; 9) Avoids micromanagement; knows the difference between tasking someone with an assignment and telling them how to carry it out; 10) Is a good listener 11) When the pressure is on, can assist with prioritization of duties and tasks; 12) Insulate his/her staff employees from (behind the scenes) confusion and distractions; 13) Can serve as a mentor to help staff members know what types of skills and accomplishments are needed to enjoy advancement within the organization;

What is your yardstick for success?

Professionally: When putting together any plan, I do my best to define some metrics for measuring success in advance so that I can get a good understanding of what “done” should look like before I get started on a project. Positive feedback from customers and colleagues can also be a good barometer. Personally: Success for me involves personal development and growth, as defined by me Success brings me a sense of self-fulfillment and joy. I find it even more rewarding if the success experienced is “outside my usual comfort zone.”

What are your long-term professional goals?

1) My personal mission is to make a difference in the lives of others. 2) Become a much sought after public speaker skilled at inspiring and motivating others on how to harness the skills and attributes they already possess to help them define and achieve their dreams; 3) Become the CEO and Co-Founder of the Todd and Jennifer Wilson Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization supporting youth music education to benefit the world for future generations;
