What make's a great boss?

A great boss is one who is approachable, listens, and open to new ideas. They will provide clear direction, honest feedback, and be a resource for their team to help accomplish their goals. They will support and speak for their team when that team is not in the room. They will be engaged with their team and their organization.

What is your yardstick for success?

The two primary "yardsticks" I use to gauge success are: success vs goals assigned to me (or my team) and success of my team's individual sales and personal development goals. The overall goals of my unit are what I am rated against and are priorities for the organization. This would include revenue or market share goals or growth, for example. My team's success vs their own goals and their career goals are important to me in my role as a coach and developer of talent. This is a commitment I make to my team as well as an investment in the future of the organization. I consider my results in both categories as very important.
